We’ve all more than likely asked ourself this question…. should I hire a makeup artist for my shoot? Should I do it for the wedding too? It can start to sound a little much and I totally get where you’re coming from… your probably thinking something along these lines…
I want to look like the “real me,” not a “fake me.”
Is a professional makeup artist is expensive?
I’m worried I wont like it!
I don’t even wear makeup as it is… the though of false eyelashes sounds “too much for me.”
Could I just do it myself?
Maybe you’re asking yourself some of those type questions and if so, I encourage you to keep reading this post! This topic isn’t to say you’re not beaut iful without makeup. Makeup doesn’t define you and nor should it. I’m just sharing this to educate you on what I see from my end when it comes to my camera and also, why it’s always important to have your makeup done professionally for any type of session.
I’ve been shooting for the past 6 years and here is what I have to say about not having your makeup done. The way a professional camera captures light, it’ll tend to wash out your skin, if not wearing much makeup. If you don’t have depth to your face such as good foundation that will last, heaver contor than normal, blush, false eyelashes, ect. this can result with your face in the final images looking pail. Lipstick is a very important factor as well. If you dont have a color on your lips, they can easily disappear in a since with your final images.
The simple truth is, nobody wants to look pail or have their lips disappear in professional pictures. You might be someone who doesn’t wear makeup on a normal basis and if you do wear it like me, you could do a full makeup look within 10 minutes. My everyday look can be as quick as 10 minutes but over all, your everyday makeup isn’t going to give you the depth or complement your face, when it’s captured with a professional camera. As your everyday makeup could look great in person and allow you to feel comfortable, it unfortunately wont give off the same effect as professional makeup does.
Professional makeup is going to me more than the usual look and that’s great! They aren’t called pros for no reason, makeup artists know how to do your makeup so you feel and look your best in the pictures. Don’t feel bad to communicate with your artist of what you like and don’t like, so they can have your best interest at heart.
Just remember, what might feel looks, “overboard” with professional makeup, will look great in your final images. Most all makeup artists will allow you a trial for a wedding! Take advantage of this opportunity for your engagement session! Chat with them if you can put it towards one of your sessions. I always recommend doing a trial because…
It allows communication with you and your artist.
It gives you feel for what you like or what you might ask to change.
You are able to see the professional images after your session with the makeup look.
No mater what shoot you’re getting ready for, always have professional looking makeup done! Professional makeup is with the investment because it enhances the over all look of your images. This is the #1 thing you can do in order to LOVE your final products. The simple truth is, if you don’t like the way you look in your images, you’re not going to be satisfied and I truly don’t want that to be the case.
