As I sat in that white crisp bridal suite, my mind went back to the day I turned around, and saw Mike get down on one knee. I froze in shock and excitingly sad YES. Our whole lives have lead up to this day. What will it be like when I’m able to see him, I wondered. Will I cry?.. Will he cry? Will we be in shock with emotions? What will it be like to be his wife?
Not knowing what to expect, I walked out of the bridal room where my mom helped me get ready in. My hand reached for the rail of the stairs; I took a deep breath and stepped down the winding staircase. With each foot in front of the other, I was getting closer and closer to this new story, a story that we could create as husband and wife. As I reached the bottom of the stair case, there My dad stood waiting. His hand was there reaching for mine. As I looked into his deep green eyes that were fighting back tears, I grasped a hold of his hand. After all, I was a daddy’s girl. There we stood, I became fueled with excitement, but also still nervous of the unknown. Then the moment I had been waiting for, for ohh so long. The barn doors swung open and there he was, my best friend, the love of my life and my rock. It was as if everyone disappeared and my nerves were wiped clean, because my eyes were focused on my future. The aisle seamed to grow with every step; I wanted to run to him but keeping it with the etiquette of a wedding, I slowly walked. When Finally making it to the arbor, I grasped my dads arm tightly as the officiant said, “who is it that gives this woman away? Her mother and I.” Looking back at my mom who was flooding in tears, then turning to my dad to give him one last hug. In that moment, my life was forever changed.
What felt like ages to get to Mike, was now steps away. As he walked towards me, not only was his hand reaching for mine, it was an example of him ready to give his life to me and I to him. As our hands touched it was as if to already say, “I will be with you through the thick and thin.”  Today is the the most special day of our love story. Today a year ago was when I was able to say YES to him for forever.
