In this blog I’ll share with you the TOP 3 secrets when it comes to the Must Have shots! I will be speaking in terms of photography but keep in mind, these top 3 ways also apply to a videographer or anyone who is in charge of documenting your day!
You don’t need me to tell you there are many things going on within a wedding day. Memories will be flooding and you want to make sure these moments are captured. Each of you brides/grooms will have an idea of things that are important to you; whether that’s your guests, the food, invitations, the flowers, venue ect. When you know which of these things are most important to you, let your photographer/videographer know because we are your eyes! The time and effort you’ve spent planning your wedding will come and go with a blink of an eye so let the people who are capturing your day, know what’s most important to you.
For me this thing was photography (aka possibly because I’m a photographer) I wanted our day to be fully documented and to be able to relive our wedding day. After your wedding is all said and done the things that are captured, will allow you to relive those special moments all while lasting for generations.
Trust is a big deal and one we in this industry work hard to earn. Trusting the people who are capturing your day is the top thing when it comes to getting those “must have shots.” Do your research and find someone who you can connect with, outside of just the pretty pictures. You want to find someone who truly cares about YOU through this whole process and puts your wants over their own agenda. If you don’t care much for the individual, but like their work.. trust me when I say, that will be an off set and NOT a good match for you or the vendor. To steer away from the bad matches, Here are 3 things to ask yourself when looking for someone to capture your memories….
If your answer was, a big YES on connection, you like the way you feel when you see the images/films and you like the way the images are edited, then you have found your match. The last thing you want is for the connection to be on point but you not like the way the images are edited or vice versa where you don’t have a great connection but like the images. When it comes down to it, these three questions are what I feel come in most handy to ask yourself when trying to find a photographer/videographer to be in charge with the large roll of capturing your wedding day.
I can’t stress enough the importance of a timeline that goes over your expectations as well as leaves times for the must have shots. What I mean by “leaves time for” is the picture time. If your a bride planning a wedding and don’t strategically plan in the time it takes for the before/after images, your chances for getting those must have images will be cut lower. That’s a whole another topic when thinking about the time it takes for images. Once your done here, hop over to Best Times for your Ceremony blog post, where I share with you these details.
Also, having a wedding day coordinator who keeps up with the timeline will also be a huge help when it comes to keeping everything running on schedule so photographers can get those shots you’re wanting. Planners really keep everything running on schedule! If you’re running behind on a timeline, photo time is what gets cut short which makes it harder for us who are capturing your day to get the must have shots.
What can I say, two is better than one! A second shooter can come in great handy through your day and capturing more of those beautiful in the moment shots! The photo above was from a wedding I was able to second shoot for the amazing Hannah Haston!
For Example: During the ceremony, Head photographer is able to focus on bride, second shooter is able to focus on Groom. With two photographers, you have different angles, different shots and over all more of the must have shots.
This is why I recommend my couples choosing the option for a second shooter. Not because I can’t capture it all myself, but because two over powers one regardless and you’ll have more images in your final gallery when having a second shooter!
So there you have on my 3 top secretes to getting those “must have” shots! If this blog post helped you any, I’d love to hear about it! You can leave it in the comments below
