There is always so many questions that go along with the Online gallery and I want to focus on them so it make’s your process easier. This topic is long overdue but my hope is that you can take something from this because almost every single photographer offers on Online gallery now days. Most of you guys out there who aren’t photographers or have never used an online gallery normally have questions. For those of you that are familiar with an online gallery, great you’re a step head BUT… what are you doing to safely store your images? Are they just downloaded on your computer and left at that? The scary truth is computers crash, files can get deleted by mistake ect. and life happens.
Which ever category you fall under when it comes to the Online gallery download, I want to give you some advice that could secure your images for LIFE!
You just received an email that your Online Gallery is finished!! After viewing it over and over again, most couples screenshot their favorite images and can’t wait to post those! Hold up though, a screenshot of the gallery wont give you a clear image (unless you’re wanting to post an image that isn’t clear.)
If this is you, Download the gallery first! Hold off from posting a screenshot unless you’re just really dying to. I will talk more about how you can get your favorite images to your phone. Lets first talk about how to properly download.
You will find the downloading button right below the gallery cover! There are a few resolution (image quality) options for the download.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to download the gallery to your phone. I will show you how to get the images to your iphone but first, you need to download on a computer.
In order to download you have to type in the PIN number. You can locate your PIN number on the email sent to you with the gallery link.
It’ll now give you these three downloading options. I recommend for sure downloading the gallery in High Res & Original.
Once downloaded to your computer, be sure to rename the folder so you can keep the image sizes organized.
I only recommend this download option, if you want to send ALL the images from the gallery to your phone (through email.) This will allow the images to be small enough to send a lot of images all at once.
If posting on social media, this is an okay option and works! Just keep in mind it’s not as clear when zooming in on the image.
This is a GREAT option for downloading and sharing on social media. These image files will be larger so you wont be able to email them in big groupings. I recommend creating a “favorite” heart list
on your gallery for the images you want to have on your iphone or post. Once you have all your favorites selected, download them with the “high Res” option.
This is the BEST resolution (image file) for any form of printing! The “original” size is a large jpg file. This is what I myself order print’s in, small & large as well as Albums & Canvas.
Even if you don’t think you’ll be needing large prints, this is an image size you’ll need to have!
Now that you’ve chosen the quality size you’d like, continue the download process.
Once it’s downloaded, double click on the notification, or search on your resent downloads.
This is a great time to now change the name of the folder to the quality size you just downloaded. Doing this will keep you knowing what’s what!
After you’ve renamed the folder, repeat the downloading process with a different image size option.
This is one of the MOST IMPORTANT things you can do in order to have your images for LIFE, yet so many people forget this step! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard about someone having a computer crash, a break in or even sadly enough a fire and loose what they once had. I have also heard that those same people who had the computer crash or somehow loose their images, desperately contact the photographer which is their only option now at that point. Friends, I’m going to keep it real, photographers aren’t who should be keeping your images secure, this is on you. After a few years, your photographer (myself included) could possibly no longer have your images. These are things no body wants to think about but this is why securing your images are important, because life happens!
Here are a few things I will suggest if you don’t want to take a chance loosing these memories!
First thing I recommend in order to secure a wedding day, double it! Your wedding is something that you can’t ever get back so download your images to 2 external Hard drives! Now incase you ever loose one or it get’s damaged, you have a back up!
Second, get your images online through the cloud or an online gallery (like what I use.) The online gallery company I use is Pixieset. Just because it’s for “photographers,” don’t let that scare you! If you’re not someone who’s familiar with storing data on the cloud, just sign up for a free version of an online gallery! Currently Pixieset only offers 3 gigis for the free verison. PASS is another online gallery company that offers 20 gigis for the free version. This is the better option if you’re simply wanting to upload your images. I have done this for my wedding which makes me feel good that our wedding images are safe and secure!
Head over now to your email and compose a new email, addressed to yourself. You will have an option below to attach files (images.) Depending on the image file size you’re emailing yourself you will quickly see if you can select many images or just a few. The higher the quality, the less images you’ll be able to attach. Attach as many as your email will let you then send and repeat until you’ve sent all the images you’re wanting on your phone.
Pull up your email on your iphone! Once you’ve “tap to download”, hold down on one of the squares. It’ll give you a few options!
This is where you can “save all” or save each image individually!
Here I will message it to friends/family!
Now the images are successfully downloaded and safely secured plus now you have the images on your phone!
I hope these steps where helpful and will secure your images fo LIFE! Let me know in the comments if there is something else you would like to see, I’m happy to help! OR let’s connect, through more blogs like these or Instagram, see you there!
