Wow, Can you believe it’s already 2019?!! This past year has flown by!!! I’ll be honest, back when mike and I where engaged and doing the whole planning a wedding thing, building a house… all while trying to figure out life was a LOT!!! I’m sure if you’re engaged you can definitely relate. I wouldn’t take that season back though for anything!! It was such an exciting time in our lives and one I love looking back on. Now for why this matters from this past year, I’ll be honest with you….
I took a whole year off from photography when Mike and I where engaged. I say photography like that’s all that goes into it but as a photographer there is so much more behind the sense work like marketing, client experience, blogging, shooting, editing, web designing, social media strategy… am I boring you yet? Obviously the list can continue on. This was all the result of me not being as active in my career until after our wedding in October of 2017!!
After we got settled in our cozy, farm house styled home out in the country, that’s when I decided to fully commit to my passion which you guessed it was at the new year of 2018 which already feels like ages ago but in reality, was only 12 months ago. I made a big re-brand form “Texas Angel Photography” to Angel Owens Photography which in a way I felt more legit because I was “married” and could use my last name and well, it just felt good to say Angel “Owens” even though I had my fair share of times I’d be writing my name on something and out of habit forget I had a new last name and wright Angel Lovell!
At the beginning of 2018 I made some drastic changes to my business and what my goals where for it. I became a big time learner and I will never stop learning. I believe knowledge is one of the most valuable thing someone can ask for.
I am made with dyslexia. In a since, learning was never my strong point. I can read something then by the next sentence become not sure of what I just read. I would give 100% on something school or college related and be let down by my lack of testing skills. This was the thing I hated most about myself but through Christ have turned that negative into a positive my learning how to work with my struggles rather than against them.
As I think about the story of David in the bible who asked God only for wisdom rather than fame and riches, I want this to me true for myself in life. I choose to be a big advocate for learning. Whether it’s things deeper like Jesus, Church growing my faith, all things business like Listening to podcasts on business growing my understanding of what I can be doing better, or even learning about people in general I find it all so fascinating! A big thing though that I don’t want to fall into is just learning to hear and not apply. I believe that everyone has a story to be told and things to share. APPLYING what you learn if it’s positive, thats where the life changes happen!! I want to get better at this and make it a goal that goes into the New Year!
It was a great year, one with many amazing moments where I’ve been so inspired with life and other moments where I’ve needing understanding in harder situations.
Over the past year I’m realizing what truly maters is how you handle your highs and lows. I choose to look to Christ in both areas because He is who sustains me through everything whether it’s my personal life or through my passion. I LOVE getting to serve so many amazing people through photography and can not wait to see what 2019 has in store!
